  Star Wars: A New Hope

Although this episode in the STAR WARS franchise is now referred to as "A New Hope" it is the only title where I have chosen to use the STAR WARS reference.  This is because when it was first released in 1977 it was simply titled STAR WARS.  This is my little attempt to get back at Lucas for tinkering too much with this fantastic series of films.

In the re-release of the original Trilogy George Lucas went back to the films and re-worked them, adding scenes and special effects that were either unavailable or unusable at that time.  Most of these improvements do add to the story except there is at least one scene in each of these first three films that suffers from Lucas's incessant over-producing.

In STAR WARS it is the scene where Greedo confronts Han Solo in the cantina in the Mos Eisley space port.  In the original film Solo shoots Greedo "in cold blood", or rather after Greedo implies that he is going to kill Han.  In the reworked version Greedo now shoots first (an extremely bad shot for a bounty hunter mind you) so that now it implies the Han Solo is firing in self defense.  He' a bounty hunter for crying out loud, he should shoot first!

Also did you ever notice how much Luke whines in the first film.  Saying stuff like "But I was going to join the rebellion this summer with Biggs" or "I don't want to go to town and buy a power converter" or "You're going to get us killed" all in an Ed Whiner type voice, (I am paraphrasing, these are not actual quotes).  My point is that once you start noticing this, Luke's voice becomes very annoying.  Thank God (& Lucas) for "The Empire Strikes Back".
